By |

The governor announced a three-month tax grace period for traders and warned against renting out stalls, which would result in automatic repossession.

More than 60 traders are set to benefit from the launch of the new Mokowe open air market constructed by the Lamu County Government.

Currently, 67 traders will operate from the newly constructed market.

Speaking at Mokowe Headquarters, Lamu Governor Issa Timamy said the market will boost trade and support small-scale enterprises in Mokowe.

The governor announced a three-month tax grace period for traders and warned against renting out stalls, which would result in automatic repossession.

“Our agenda was to open the market and help traders carry out their economic activities in a conducive environment. In the next financial year, my administration will set aside funds to build a perimeter wall around the Mokowe market,” said Governor Issa.

Traders expressed gratitude following the construction of the market. They anticipated positive transformations in the future.

Governor Issa urged residents to support the markets, promising additional development.

The inspection also included Majembeni Market, set to open officially in March 2024.

The governor stated that constructing open-air markets across the county will boost the residents' livelihood.

He encouraged youth, women, and business-minded individuals to seize the opportunities created by these markets.

“My administration has embarked on the process of constructing open-air markets across the county to help our people earn income. I urge the youth, women, and men to take advantage of the opportunities that will be created by these markets," said Governor Issa.
